4 WAYS TO FIX YOUR FUNK

Have you been feeling out of sorts lately? We all have periods when we feel a bit funky.  We’re temperamental, avoidant and just plain not ourselves.  If you’re in that season of feeling that way now, here are four ways to help you pull yourself out of your funk.

MOVE YOUR BODY

This tip isn’t rocket science, but when we feel funky, movement seems to go out the window.  Yet science proves time and time again how powerful exercise can be for our mindset.

Research has shown exercise does things like help us sleep better, feel more relaxed, and even help with depression. It can do this by reducing inflammation and creating new activity patterns that promote feelings of calm and well-being. Moving for as little a 5 to 10 minutes can have an impact on your mood. The key is to make sure you get some in every day.

CLEAR YOUR SPACE

Don’t underestimate the power of a clean space.  I always feel better when my space is clean and getting up to do the cleaning helps me move my body too!  (#WinWin) Research shows too that a clean space helps calm the mind and stay focused on things that are more important to us.

This article from Popsugar explains how the state of your home can be either stressful or restorative. Clutter has a way of distracting us from things we should be focusing on instead.

FIND WAYS TO BOOST YOUR ENDORPHINS

Again, this may be a no-brainer tip here, but when we’re in a highly emotional state, things we enjoy seem to not get done.  This is what hinders us the MOST from feeling better.  When we feel funky, that means it’s time to do even MORE to boost our endorphins.  While moving your body and cleaning your space will boost your endorphins naturally, you can boost them in many other ways too.

A technique I teach my clients is to make a “do you” list.  Essentially, this is a list of all the things they love to do.  There’s nothing too big or too small to go on this list.  Even simple things like smelling a candle, putting on lotion or listening to a favorite song can do on your “do you” list.

When you’re feeling down, go to this list and see what you can do to right then to make yourself feel better.  (You may need to combine many things too.) Then, once you’re out of your funk, develop a plan to incorporate 8 hours of “do you” time in your week so you can stay funk proof in the future.

Find your life purpose

A life purpose can serve as a why for living well.  Any time I’m in a funk, I use my life purpose to give me the motivation to not only keep pushing through during a funky period but I’m able to see how the funk is helping me find more ways to USE my life purpose.   (In essence, I see how the funk has a purpose for my greater good vs. seeing it as a hindrance.)

Finding your life purpose is something I help my clients do if you’d like to learn more about what coaching with me is like, start by taking my FREE coaching assessment.  In just a few minutes, you’ll learn if you’re in the right place.  Take the free assessment here: www.LindsayEPreston.com/Assessment
